This is the (not-so-epic) story of my (on-going), last ditch effort to lose weight.

Quick background. I was thin almost all my life. Granted, I would gain weight when I was pregnant with my three boys (50 lbs. with the first; 60 lbs. with the second; 70 lbs. with the third), but it always came off. Except for the last time. I couldn’t seem to lose more than 30 lbs. no matter what I did. So, for seven years, I was 40 lbs. over weight and was OK with that. Then in 2004, my brother died unexpectedly, then my dog. In 2006 I was diagnosed with depression and joined the Prozac nation (actually, the Celexa/Wellbutrin nation, but you know what I mean). Within a year, I had put on another 30 lbs., then another 10 pounds the next year. Now, at 5’5″, I weight 219 lbs.

So this begins, this time for good, I hope – with two numbers: 219 and 6. The 219 is easy to figure out; that was my weight on April 1. The six is how many months before I turn 50.

My goal is simple: lost 40 pounds in six months. That seems do-able to me; after all that’s a little more than 1.5 pounds a week.

We’ll see how it goes …

Sigh. Not so good.

Starting again on Nov. 26, 2010. Weight is now 212 (so I guess I did lose 7 lbs.), but a whole slew of new health and family issues. Onward and upward.
