Earth Day

Had to give myself kudos this am. Was at a networking ever and passed up all the goodies which included bacon (this event always has bacon-which is a story for another day).

Then, I successfully talked myself out of stopping for a special Earth Day priced latte and breakfast sandwich at Caribou, opting instead to have fake eggs and an English muffin at home.

Lunch was two ff hot dogs on ww buns plus some really, really tart sauerkraut.

Snack was a Vitalicious muffin with a tablespoon of ff coolwhip.

Then a shortcoming: small helping of tortillas, reduced fat chess and salsa.

Week 3 in Weight Watchers

So, I’m now into week 3 of ww – again. As you may know, I go on and then go off. My problem is not that I don’t know what to do – but sticking with the program.

The first week was great – down 2.6 lbs. Week two was a wash – but I think I lost inches (I’m really cranking up the exercise).

This week was harder. On Saturday night, I went to a professional sporting event (MN Swarm) and ate at the buffet. While I made fairly good choices, it was still more food that I needed.

Sunday was our family’s annual Palm Sunday brunch.  I tried to make the best choices I could but frankly gave up. The food was rich and heavy, and not a lot of good choices could be found. So, I instead focused on quantity. I limited my visits to the buffet to two, and followed the old WW advice of not letting portions touch each other. I think it was ok, but has to guess at points (I gave it an even 40).

  • Monday and Tuesday were not great either. I am an emotional eater and am going though a job hunt which is extremely stressful. The difference this time? I tracked everything (something  that in the past I gave up on when I knew I was out of control). I also kept my eyes on the exercise prize, walking on Tuesday and taking a great kickboxing class that totally kicks my ass.
  • Wednesday I did better: stuck to the program and made a WW stir fry for dinner. No hard-core exercise, but a nice 30 minute “stroll” with my husband and the dog. (I have to clarify with my husband when I want an easy stroll and when I’m ready to go out full throttle).
  • Today (Thursday): Did 25 minutes on TM (3.4MPH at 4 incline) and then another 20 minutes on the Elliptical (I’m a wimp on that so only work at a level 3). Came home and had a great breakfast: 3 slices turkey bacon, 1/2 egg substitute, 1/4 c ff cheddar cheese, handful of fresh spinach and a 1/3 c of black beans.

Weigh in is on Saturday, so let’s see what happens.

Back to Weight Watchers

Counting carbs is hard. I like programs that are easy to monitor and calculate. When I tried that with carb counting, I got frustrated trying to figure out what the count was for my husband’s homemade turkey wildrice soup. So, I figured I go back to what comfortable – Weight Watchers. I also know WW works if I stick to it. So, I go back to WW online (I don’t go to meetings) and what do I find? A totally new ww program that takes carbs into consideration. Not sure of this is a good thing or not, but have been tracking diligently for two days. We’ll see how it shakes put on the weekend. I’ll post more about the new WW program later.

My Personal Food Plan

16 carb choices per day (2-4 per meal, 1-3 per snack)

7 oz meat or meat substitute per day

6 fat servings per day

64 oz liquid

30 minutes treadmill

Counting Carbs

So, earlier this week I went to see a registered dietitian. She suspects that I am pre-diabetic (note: I do not want to go into my MD’s office for blood test because I was told in February that I had 6 months to bring down my cholesterol on my own or start taking Lipitor. I am 99 percent sure my #s are the same now as then, so I am holding off as long as I can.)

Anyway, she wants me to start carting carbs as though I was diabetic. As someone who has done just about every diet out there, I figured it would be a piece of cake. I was wrong. I will be at the bookstore today looking for books to help me figure this stuff out.

It begins. Again. Really.

It shouldn’t be this hard, right? I’m smart (at least according to the various degrees on my wall), so why the problems?

Laziness, I think. I believe it’s true that as you get older, your insight gets better. I can say without a doubt that I am lazy. I enjoy eating and am willing to do a little bit about my eating (and drinking) habits, but not enough so it moves the scale. What to do?

Either embrace the weight, get rid of the thousands of dollars of clothes I have in sizes 8 through 16 and rock the size 18 body. OR try try again. I’m too vain to embrace the 18 so I guess I have no choice but to go other other route.

New Year, New Resolve

I love the New Year.

It begins. Again.

This time, it’s The Biggest Loser diet. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Flakes in the Twitterverse

So, I registered my new Twitter name today (@dietingtrainwrk) and tweeted that  I was looking to follow folks who needed to lose weight and not sell me stuff. I posted the Tweet to #diet and #weightloss  Hopefully, I’ll find some new Tweeps to tweet with soon.
